Outlook PST contacts problem

I had to re-install a system, so I backup up the PST file, restored system, and restored the PST file. Everthing works fine, I can see the contacts folder, and use it, but when I am trying to send a new email, and I click on the "TO" to look up contacts, I get the following error message.
The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened, it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions.

If I start typing an email address, outlook will fill it in, its seeing my folder.

Any idea how I can fix this?

Try Exporting the contacts and re-importing them via File Import/Export on outlook.

1st: do you have "Outlook Contacts" enabled in control panel -> mail -> services?

2nd: if you right click on the "Contacts" folder does it have the check box checked to allow use as a Contact List?

3rd: if the above are already done or dont work, try the pst fix tool
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010549311033.aspx

you can also try to export just the contacts and then delete the contacts and re-import them.

Hi,

1. Open Outlook. Tools > Services
2. Click on Addressing
3. Check if the contacts folder is there in the last box. If its not there, add the same.

All the best

There is no Mail >> Services, or Outlook >> Tools >> Services

Update: If I click ok after the error message, my contacts opens up empty, but if I click on the drop down arrow, contacts appears twice, and the second one is the complete contact list, so next step is, how to get rid of the empty one, and not the full one!!!

I am still looking into this, just posting incase anyone has had the exact problem.

Its a clients system, so I can only work on it when I am on site.

Here's what you do...
This same issue happens to me on Outlook 2003 every time I reinstall and use a backed up pst file.

Here is the solution from Microsoft... works every time:

Nice and easy
Forget exporting and all that. Just do this:

1. Go to Control Panel > Mail > E-mail Accounts...
2. Select the 'View or change existing directories or address books' option under Directory.
3. Select Next > Change...
4. There should be two Contacts items listed in the box. Select the first one and choose remove.
5. Close and Finish, restart Outlook and you should be fine to have the list come up when you click "To" when composing a new message.
