7 Layers and TCPIP

there are many a man greater then I that can explain tcp/ip in depth.

So I will point you in the right direction.

The bible of all tcp/ip books:

TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1: The Protocols, Addison-Wesley, 1994, ISBN 0-201-63346-9.

Thenget TCP/IP Network Administration, 2nd Edition
By Craig Hunt
2nd Edition December 1997
1-56592-322-7, Order Number: 3227

Then this is an invaluable link
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/

It is the online RFCS site. A must for all admins.

Now a word of caution. IT work is all about being able to teach yourself. If you find that reading constantly and problem solving are big issued for you, then you may want to reconsider your career choice.

I'm not saying this to be harsh or mean.I just speak what guy's like myself expect from their peers. I'm also self-taught and never stepped foot inside a classroom.

If you can learn how to teach yourself and work thru the problems on your own. You will go far. If you can't, you willbe stuck in help desk.
