Win 98 and Win xp

Can a hard disk partitioned with (partition magic )into two partitions have Windows 98 and Windows xp on it and used separatly?

Yes, you cannot use them together... you choose at boot which partition you want to boot into.

That will work. Just make sure you install Win98 first.

Yes, but you'll have to install Win98 first, then WinXP; so, you will have the page which ask you if you want to run WinXP or Win98
