A DC joining another Domain as a DC

I recently had to join a PDC to my new Windows 2000 Domain. So I took it offline and upgraded it to a DC in a phony domain. I then demoted it to a member server and then promoted it to a DC in my production envirement. Now I am receiving many errorsrelating to the KCC and not being able to find sysvol. What am I missing? It seems to me that it still has informtion from the old phony domain in it.

The only way to take a DC and place it into another domain is to reinstall. The reason you are getting all the errors is because the SID on your machine is not being recognized by the new domain and vise versa.

The 1st response was true only in NT.

Why did you add it into a phony domain to begin with?

Do you have any sites setup?

Is the time (clock) between each server the same or less then 2 minutes apart?

The KCC is responsable for setting up the best routes for replication of all domain servers within a site. The error is letting you know replication is faltering. Can you browse to the Main DC from this one? Is there any type of network problem?

There are some replication checker tools built into 2000. REPLMON and REPADMIN (MS ARTICLE Q229896) that you can use to assist in determining the failure.
