Access 97 > GroupWise 5.5

By brad.heilman ·
I would like to get Access 97 to "talk" to GroupWise. What I have in mind is a command button which will bring up the GroupWise client and mail a form.

We use Windows 95, Novell client 3.10.SP2 and GroupWise 5.5.2. I have eight employees who want to e-mail proofs and proof memos. The proofs are in Quark (.QXD) format. The proof memos are the Access-based forms I was referring to. They are not physically saved anywhere - Access pulls the information from our AS/400 using ODBC.

I know you can use the Send To Fax Recipient... command in Word to use a third-party fax utility (e.g. HP OfficeJet 600 Series Fax) I tried the same thing in Access using the Send... command, thinking I could just create an attachment. However, Access attempts to mail it using Outlook, which creates havoc in our GroupWise databases. Any suggestions?

Access 97 > GroupWise 5.5

Just a question that may spur some thoughts. What order did you install GroupWise 5.5 on the workstations ? Was it before or after the install of the Access '97 ? We had some major issues with Office apps quashing the MAPI interface for GroupWise if we installed Office apps after we installed GroupWise. One thing to try would be to.

1. Uninstall the GroupWise client.
2. Run the Novell RegClean Utility to clean out registry entries and stray files.
3. Reinstall the GroupWise client.

You may also have to reinstall the Windows Messaging on the PC.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, muleboy. The installation order could be different on any one of our 200+ PCs. I did the test on my machine in IS... I removed the Outlook option in the last Setup I ran. I know that my Mail and Fax Control Panel is correct. No loss... we're not going this route any more!
