Question

Locked

Access bitlocker encrypted drive

By Peior Crustulum ·
Hi, I have a bitlocker encrypted WD passport that i brought with me on holiday.
Of course not realizing I would not have access to a Vista Enterprise, Ultimate or a W7 RC OS at any point during my trip.

Is there any way to unlock my drive on a Vista Home Premium machine or a Windows XP machine?
I've heard that W7 will introduce Bitlocker To Go, is it possible to download any kind of software that will give me a password prompt for the drive?

Sorry, I don't think so

I believe you need to use one of the OS that have Bitlocker. Depending on which features you used, you may have to have the drive connected to the original machine on which the drive was encrypted. (TPM).

If you used the "USB key only" feature, you'd just need a machine with the proper OS, I think.

Let's see if one of the more experienced folk will have anything additional to say and correct me where I'm wrong.

Oh, and

seems to be a decent reference.

or remember the password.

that's what's nice about BitLocker. you know no one can get into the files without the key.

Missunderstanding?

You seem to be under the impression that I don't know the password, however I am simply asking if it is possible to access the bitlocker unlock wizard on an OS that is NOT Vista Enterprise, Vista Ultimate or Windows 7?

No it is not possible.

Does that answer your question?
