Access NT4 Svr share from Win2K Svr

By eagleye ·
I have set up win 2k server domain. I also have an nt4 pdc and bdc on another domain. I have 2-way trust set. I cannot access any printers or files from the 2kdomain. They have different networks but router is configured to allow access both ways. Why can't I access the nt shares from win2K?

There is a good chance that the broadcasts that are used by NetBIOS for computer browsing are not being forwarded by the router. You must have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled on our network interfaces on the Windows 2000 network as well.

Hope this helps.

first thing to check!

Have you set up your 2k domain in native mode or mixed mode?
Remember that if your 2k Domain has been configured as a NATIVE mode environment then access to any shares on this domain are restricted to clients running WIN 2Konly.

To gain access to any shares or printers which have been registered as part of win2K domain through active directory you will have to create a user on the 2K domain with access rights to each object in the domain which access is required and authenticate through that user from your NT 4 domain.

please give more info if this aint the case and maybe we can help you more!

ie: are you recieving an access denied when trying to map to a share on the 2k domain or recieving unable to map to folder (server, file or folder unavailable)

The 2K server is in mixed mode. The two-way trust does verify. What I can't see is shares on the nt4 domain from the 2K domain. I have not checked on the UDP ports solution.

Make a user account that is the same username and password on both domains and see if that works.

I assume that they can ping each other?

Also try connecting with a net use command with the /user switch - it should prompt for a password.

Also you could specify the NT4 box in an LMhosts file with the #PRE and #DOM switches on the W2K. Could also try adding to the W2K DNS.
