i have LAN network in my organisation. i have faced a problem as follows..
when i try to access a shared folder in win 98 pc through win2000 professional pc it works; but vice-versa it dosn't work. i tried it removing the sharing password of win 2000 pc and accssing it through win98 pc. at any time it asks for accessing the win2000 professional pc. for that to copy files i have to access only through win2000 professional pc. can anybody help me out?

I seem to remember that you need to allow "file and print sharing" check through the propertys tab by right clicking on you LAN/NIC icon in network neighbourhood?

on the W2K machine you must have a login name and password that the win 98 pc logs in with.

You also need to be sharing some folder with rights assigned to that folder for the win98 user.

I have solved this by having some public folders on the server that all operating systems can access. A user logs on and can see the public folders because group access allows them to see the public folders plus their own. This works for my network which uses win 95. win 98 and win 2000 professional running on a win 2000server.
