The nic and the sound card do not conflict, they have diffrent irq,dma and address. the sound card in device manager says the driver is not loaded and when i try to load a new driver its not in the sound blaster driver or in the main board drivers. idid look in the windows drivers too.

At the following link, download the .exe and the 4 .lib files, and unzip them into a temp directory.

http://www.creativehelp.com/files/download.asp?OS=Win98&prod=sbpci128

Go into Settings-controlpanel-system-hardware and remove the ?pci multimedia device. Do not restart when it asks you.

Go to the temp directory, and run the executable file, and it will install your card.

BTW, the card is a Soundblaster PCI 128.

If the link doesn't work, just go to www.creativelabs.com and doa search for CT4750, and it'll lead you to the correct page.

Forgot to mention, if you don't want/need the full functionality, like the Mixer/recorder etc, you can just download the el28up9x.exe file. It'll get you sound, but none of the software that comes with it.

You stated that about 3/4 of the way through you were prompted to install a device. Then you stated that the device has no conflicts. First question, Is the device installed, and does the device work properly. I would guess if the device shows in D/M and doesnt show a symbol, ie., red circle, yellow exclamation point etc showing a problem then the drivers are to blame. I have run into this many time's. I would uninstall ALL sound devices from D/M. If asked to restart select no. Then I would goto add/remove hardware. If it finds the device then I would Not let windows look for the drivers I would select show all hardware, then click have disk to locate drivers on your own. I would then verify that the INF file Im lookin at is for the correct operating system. Some device show an inf file at the root, while the real "DRIVER" is hidding in a sub folder usually titled win9x. There are many things that can happen to a device if the proper steps arent followed during installation. The main thing is Dont reboot before the device is completely installed, if you do then windows will continue to load the BAD driver that doesnt work. I hope this helps some,,,,,
