Application Log

On my exchange 5.5 server the application log in event viewer keeps filling up with SMTP connection events. How do I stop the log from filling up?

In the Event viewer application properties set the 'overwrite events as needed'. This will keep only the most recent events. You can increase the size it holds.

The easy answer is to overwrite entries in the log as it fills or increase the log size depending if you want to just prevent overwriting or save the entries. On the other hand you can also configure the Exchange diagnotic logging to log less information. Run the Exchange Administrator. Select Connections under your Exchange site name, select the Internet Mail Service and view Properties. there is a "Diagnostics Logging" Tab, with a number of categories to monitor, this is where you can reduce logging events to mimimum or none. (the defaults for loggin are mostly none, but some are minimum). You may want to reduce them one by one. you will have to restart the Internet Mail service for changes to take affect.
