AS-400 to LDAP

By It's Not Easy Being Green ·
Does anyone know of software connecting an AS/400 running RGP to an LDAP or Active Directory database?
Thanks...

AS-400 to LDAP

by erikdr In reply to AS-400 to LDAP

Generally, AS/400 with LDAP is not a big problem.
IBM offers both the SecureWay LDAP (also branded under Tivoli), which happens to be under the hood for WebSphere/400 too, and the Domino LDAP on the iSeries.
See e.g.

for a note on having WebSphere and Domino both link to this SecureWay. Some more notes from this web reference:
'Directory Services provides Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) on the OS/400 which includes both AS/400 and iSeries. Directory Services is part of the IBM Directory Server family of products and services and is sometimes referred to as Directory Server (formerly SecureWay Directory) for OS/400'

Also a redbook on this tool is
'http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedbookAbstracts/sg246193.html?Open'

However RPG access to this LDAP is the hurdle. Once you have done this, you can also use the same route to go to the Active Directory (or replicate ADS to AS/400 LDAP if that is more practical). It is 6 years since I worked with RPG and browsing quickly through these redbooks I do not find much on RPG, but probably you can find something.

One final note: if there is no perfect match, as the iSeries LDAP is integrated with OS/400 security, as a last resort you could replicate the ADS to the OS/400 userdatabase and then use the old-fashioned RPG APIs towards that.

Hope thiz helpz,
