*.asc extension

By adrian4 ·
Is there a way to save a file with *.asc extension in Word 2003? This option is available in previous versions of MS Word under the "Save as" menu.

The only way I can find is to save it as a text file and then rename it.

But an .asc file is just a plain text file.

Copy and paste the text into notebook and save it.

Notepad will allow you to save as any extension.

This would be a work around, but it still would not help.
I need to save the file in MS Word as I did with previous versions of Word. I have a third party software which interfaces with Word and it looks for a *.asc file upon exit.

Try this macro:

Sub asc()
'
' asc Macro
'
ActiveDocument.SaveAs FileName:="Doc1.txt", FileFormat:=wdFormatText, _
LockComments:=False, Password:="", AddToRecentFiles:=True, WritePassword _
:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, EmbedTrueTypeFonts:=False, _
SaveNativePictureFormat:=False, SaveFormsData:=False, SaveAsAOCELetter:= _
False, Encoding:=437, InsertLineBreaks:=False, AllowSubstitutions:=False, _
LineEnding:=wdCRLF
ActiveWindow.Close
Name "C:\Doc1.txt" As "C:\Doc1.asc"
End Sub

If that doesn't work download and install this:
