ASP/IIS 4.0

By elrodt ·
I have one server for holding data & running a intranet site. I am using ASP forms & search pages. I have two problems when someone enters the wrong value and the server side debugger comes on, we no longer can access the active server pages. Howdo I get ASP going again without having to reboot the server.

Thanks Terry

when you go to the property of the web site using the Internet Service Manager, there should be one tab or one place that mention about debugging, just disabled that or uncheck, that should do the trick.

Try going into the MMC that manages your IIS. Stop the service (assuming it is also still running) and start it up again.

I believe with IIS4 there is a huge "memory leak" when running ASP, and debugger or not, I have found on all of my IIS4 gear, when running ASP, I needed to regularly reboot the whole box to prevent ASP from hanging.

A good preventative (rather than disabling the debugger) is to put some client-side forms validation, typically in the form of Javascript, into the web page. Validating the data before it gets to the server has always been considered a "best practice" to get out of the GIGO loop.
