assign admin privs to group of local PCs

By gwhittaker ·
How can I allow a departmental tech to have local administrative rights to his dept.'s machines (for installing software and local printers, etc.) without giving him Administrator rights to the entire domain?

Create a domain group that includes him and, on the local workstations, add that group to the local Administrators group.

There are probably other ways to accomplish this, but in my experience, this is the most reliable.

Top Answer.
We use it all the time, all our desktops have a the global group 'install software' in the local admins group, we can then drop users in/out at will to install software, interactively or through login scripts, using an 'if member of ...' loop
