Athlon 2200xp

I have just built a pc with an athlon xp 2200 but when it boots up it registors with an xp 1500+. Is this normal or am i a fool !!!

Any help gratefully recieved

Hi I would suggest that this is incorrect, I know that some motherboards need even when new a Bios upgrade to support the lates CPU's.

As Richard stated, it is very possible that you need to update the BIOS on your motherboard.

Also, keep in mind that AMD Athlon XP CPUs are performance rated. That is the actual CPU speed is lower than the stated speed of the CPU.

To make sure that you received the correct CPU, you need to look at the printing on the top of the CPU and verify the part number.

You need to change the motherboard FSB (Front Side Bus) speed from 100MHz to 133MHz.

Many thanks to everyone who answered my question. Changing the fsb to 133mhz did the trick. Thanks again.
