auto connect with ISDN

In general, I would setup my ISDN routers to "dial on demand". Then at my central site setup a cron job to perform the upload to the remote sites. These need to be scheduled carefully so as to minimise conflicts.

At the appropriate time, the central server will fire up the upload (FTP PUT would be my choice), which in turn would cause the router to bring up the ISDN connection.

If you want to download from the remote sites instead, you could setup the same type of solution with the central site still initiating the call, but doing an FTP GET.

Having the central site doing the calling means that any toll costs are the responsibility of the central site. If you have such charges (i.e., long distance, or your PTT charges for local calls) then you can always have the remote sites initiate the call.

The secret is simplyu to have the router configured for "dial on demand".
