Backing up the Registry.

By avilesj ·
Can anyone tell me the proper procedure in backing up the registry in a WinNT 4.0 Server. Im currently using Arcserve 6.0 and im getting an error when choosing the registry tab. I called tech support and there telling me that as long as i backup thec:\winnt\system32 folder the registry is backed up. Is this True???

No. Make sure the Arcserve account has the appropriate access rights to the registry to back it up.

Partly. To ensure you have a GOOD backup of the registry run the rdisk.exe utility when you make system changes. It creates the repair disk (ERD) files which includes a compressed copy of the registry. These files are kept in the %systemroot%\repair directory. It sounds like the tech support is assuming that if you get a backup of the system directory that you should be able to restore it. They are probably right, but im paranoid and run the rdisk utility before and after server maintenance and keep a current copy of an ERD for each server in two locations.
