Backoffice4.5 in place Mig to Backoffice

By Shanghai Sam ·
I currently have a NT Backoffice 4.5 server which runs exchange 5.5. I want to do a inplace upgrade to Backoffice 2000. I have two questions. 1. My server name has a underscore in the name Example name_12 Will this cause problems will Windows 2k following the upgrade. and 2. What are the common problems that are occuring on this type of inplace upgrade.

Backoffice4.5 in place Mig to Backoffice

The underscore in the server name should not be a problem. Win2K Server still retains the ability to use the underscore for the NetBIOS name of a host machine - I have a server on my Win2K network that has an underscore in the name & haven't had anyproblems. I have not done a full BackOffice upgrade but have done an in-place upgrade of WinNT 4.0 server to Win2K server and had very few problems. My only specific advice would be to uninstall any 3rd party programs like backup software, antivirus software or other utilities that are running on the server before upgrading. IOW, make sure it's a pretty much "plain vanilla" BackOffice install before upgrading. Hope this helps!
