Backup & Disaster Recovery Software

By Eddie Arnold ·
I have an entire Windows 2000 network which includes the following on seperate servers Exchange 5.5, Sql 7, Proxy 2.0, IIS 5, File Server with VSS 6, Active Directory, and Backup. I am looking for recommendations on backup and disaster recovery software. Please keep in mind that I don't have much to spend on this solution.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Backup & Disaster Recovery Software

If you have one of the latest backup drives from HP, research something called One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR). HP has come up with a solution that allow for restore a full backup (only works with a full backup), from the tape in combination with a couple diskettes.

Windows 2000 has an excellent Backup system, but I don't know about backing up specifics such as SQL and Exchange.

BacExec from Veritas is my favorite. You can also research ArcServeIT.

Good luck!

I have no particular favourite solution for backup but I have just returned from a presentation by Veritas promoting their offerings. They do have a product that enables you to backup multiple servers within a domain and administer from one central console. I have clients who use Veritas Backup Exec and others who use ArcServe both with their own particular quirks. In the case presented to me this morning from Veritas they seem to have become quite agressive in their marketing and pricing has been significantly reduced.
Check them out http://www.veritas.com/us/products/
