Bad Sector on Hard drive

By springopen ·
I have a Dell Inspiron 3200 labtop.
It has detected a bad sector on the primary partion of the drive. Cluster 29579
I have one primary partion 2047mbytes and a ext. dos partion of 1051mbytes, the primary dos partion is FAT32 and the second is FAT16.
Machine boots up, tells me about bad sector and starts scandisk, but the hangs at 53% and never gets past that.
boot up in dos can not read drive C.

Manually start Scandisk and check to make sure "automatically fix errors" box is checked . If it's not, check the box and run scandisk again. [possibly the freeze is probably at the bad sector and scandisk is not able to mark that sector as bad.]

To add to the first answer if your unable to get scandisk to run, download the hard drive diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturers web site, run the executable file & it'll create a floppy boot disk which you can use on the laptop to check the drive.
