Is there any way to make a NT 4.0 BDC a member server without reloading NT?

No, unfortunately the only way for that to happen is a reinstall. Probably for security reasons because a member server dosent contain a copy of the SAM database.

There is a program called U-Promote which you can download and register, which can demote a PDC or BDC to stand-alone, or promote a stand-alone to a PDC or BDC. Check out www.algintech.com

We've used it at our location and haven;t had any troubles at all with it.

well to make it from a PDC to a BDC you could do that via Server Manager but from a Domain Controller to a Member Server you have to re-install it.
