Best Corporate Antivirus

By Your Mom 2.0 ·
Hi, our corp license for McAfee Managed Services is about to expire, and I'm looking for alternatives. Here is the criteria my boss has given me:

excellent anti-virus and anti-spyware detection and removal
seamless automatic virus definition update
web-based monitoring and administration

Considering Sophos, F-Prot, Kapersky products, but all three fall short in one way or another. Don't trust Norton / Symantec because I've seen it cause too many issues with Windows PCs.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Have you thought about AVG? I use their professional version at home with no issues with slowdown etc.

Edit: their, there, everywhere I can't get it right. I need to reboot my brain. ;\

AVG

by Your Mom 2.0 In reply to Have you tried

Love their freebie product. I use it for side-jobs quite often... found that it usually detects and removes viruses that McAfee misses.

AVG is at the top of a (so far) short list of possibilities.

Thanks for replying!

Your Welcome

by cmiller5400 In reply to AVG

I have found the same thing. I don't sling mud on the "other" companies by trashing their software, but AVG does seem to pick up quite a bit more than "others". I hate being political. ;\

Well firstly Semantic End Point Protection 11

by OH Smeg In reply to Best Corporate Antivirus

Works perfectly well it is installed on the serer/s not the Desktops and is one of the better products available for Enterprise AV Control.

While I wouldn't recommend Norton's AV for a dead dog to lie on their Corporate AV products work a treat I haven't had any major problems with then and they are far Superior to McAfee's similar offering.

You can however try the Corporate versions of End Point as a Trail downloaded from here

They will give you something more to look at if nothing else.

Symantec

by LarryD4 In reply to Best Corporate Antivirus

In the last 15 years I have used Symantec at UPS, Luscent, a small Credit Uninon, a technology school and now the State of New Jersey and on the corporate level they have had the best turn around and response to a threat.

I have not had any major issues in all of the locations and we are talking about users ranging from 300 to 30,000.

Their have been issues granted but the turn around time on any issue has been within 12 to 24 hours.

I'm not saying that their are not any alternatives that migh be just as good. But my experience thus far in IT has been good with Symantec.

Consider ESET

by karlkeip In reply to Best Corporate Antivirus

We've used Sophos. It's good at detecting malware, but hasn't been good at preventing it or removing it. We're currently considering their Business Edition of ESET Smart Security as a replacement. One caveat: many resellers try to offer tech support. Only go with ESET's tech people. They are very sharp.

I agree with Karlkeip, but

by Churdoo In reply to Best Corporate Antivirus

ESET is awesome as a corp solution, however one of your requirements was a browser based control panel -- the ESET/NOD32 remote admin control panel is an app, not a browser interface. The app can be run from any node on the network, and it attaches to the RA Server via IP, but again it's not a browser interface. ESET does meet the rest of your requirements hands down, and it's my fav.

If the browser control panel for you is non-negotiable, then I would suggest Trend Micro, whatever they're calling their OfficeScan product nowadays. TM doesn't bog down the clients or the server like Symantec does, does a great job with virus and malware, updates, and is managed via browser interface, meeting all of your criteria.
