Best ICS setup or alternatives for LAN internet connection

Hi All, i'm looking at new options for sharing my Internet connection i get from a seperate wireless LAN.

Current Setup:
Home LAN (192.168.0.x)
One temporary win xp pro laptop is in a location in the house in range of the nearby WLAN.
This laptop is connected to the WLAN (192.168.1.x) and windows ICS is enabled on the wnic, sharing the internet out throught the wired nic (192.168.0.1) and thus throughout the LAN in the house.

Next step:
I am currently configuring a permanent, dedicated 'ICS host' type xp pro laptop to replace the above and need suggestions for the best & most secure setup.
Should i go for the same as above again (windows ics) or should i go for another type of sharing method (or software, or hardware)?
I spotted this link to alternative ICS software packages:
?compnetworking.about.com/od/inte???ring.htm - any comments?

Since this is a 'Gateway' PC, i need it to be as secure as possible. What is the best firewall/AV i could use (i currently use zone alarm and AVG)

Other configs:
Should i introduce a hardware firewall just behind the ICS host?
Should i replace the ICS host with a Wireless router/AP that can connect to the wlan and use NAT to send the signal to my lan?

Any other Solutions, tips or links are greatly appreciated, both in the Hardware and Software config area - i'm willing to experiment and am interested in the area.

Thanks in advance,
