Best Router

By Realm Master ·
What would be the best size Cisco router to use for a web hosting business? I have a older 7500, I see Cisco has some new routers, (i.e) their new 7400 that is only 1U in size. Should I keep the older router or get a newer one?

Hi,

The fact that you're even asking this question suggests to me that you should keep the old one for the time being. Unless you have a reason to upgrade, then dont.

When you have a reason in the future - like your current router cant providethe bandwidth you require or doesn't have enough ports or management features, then buying another one at that time will get you an even better router for less money.

Cheers,
Tim.

You don't give any reasons why your old router doesn't fit you needs nor what your requirements are for a new router. If your old equipment gets the job done then use it unless you like spending money. If you really have a need to not use your existing equipment then give a reason and perhaps someone can give an informed opinion of one model over the other.

The one I have is real old and beat up, and is in need of major upgrades.

The hardware in a 7XXX series router is rather expensive. Price the necessary upgrade and then make your decision.

I would keep the older router as long as it meets your needs for your projected future. If it does not meet you needs call your Cisco rep and ask a Cisco Trade in.
