Bilingual Fonts

By docbrij ·
I am developing a website which requires me to put bilingual fonts side by side. So far I have been putting them in tables and on the client/browser side viewing them in the IE5.0 under View->Encoding->Arabic(Windows) fontset. Are there more profound ways to push a bilingual contents on the web?? Can someone help me with this. Can it also be done on Net.Commerce 3.0 or higher (Commerce Suite)? Please forward any resources on this.

I've used bilingual fonts with HOMESITE from Allaire and it worked great! Haven't had any experience with Net.Commerce so I can't tell you about that. Homesite so far has allowed me to do virtually anything.

Make sure you test with a variety of browsers and platforms. You may be relying on something (for example, Unicode support in IE 5 / Windows 98) that may not be available to other viewers of your site.

One practical approach is to find out the most common character set / encoding used by users for your target language; the safest approach is to support all possible character sets and detect which one to serve up based on the user's browser settings (for example, for Japanese there's both SJIS and EUC-JP). At a minimum test your site with both Netscape and IE (5.x on Win98 and 4.x on Win95).
