BIOS does not find HDD upon boot

By kham74 ·
Everytime I turn on my PC the HDD is not found. If I go into BIOS and select Auto detect, it finds it and I reboot and my OS comes up fine. If I turn off my PC then the HDD settings for Auto is not saved, so I have to go in and reauto detect everytime I want to use my PC. All other settings are saved including my CDROM and CDRW on the 2nd IDE controller. I put in another HDD into the 1st IDE controller and still the same result, changed ide cables even the cmos battery. Dumb founded is allI can say. Help!! Please!!

It could be a problem with the BIOS, have you tried to reflash it?

Did you check the CMOS battery that you replaced? After replacing it, did anything change for a few days or weeks? If the old battery was low, and your new one is low too, then something in your system is draining the battery.

Is this a sudden problem or is it a new computer that had no problems prior to this? How often do you power up this computer? Are the connections to the CMOS battery secure?

You can try flashing the bios with the most current bios you can find. You either have a battery issue or a motherboard problem here.
