Blank screen - and can't restore system in safe mode

By jamienedved ·
Hi,

If anyone can help I?d be greatly appreciated. When I start my PC it loads windows but goes to a blank screen instead of my desktop. I?ve tried several different methods of getting windows xp to boot normally but none of them have worked. If I start my PC with the windows disc in the drive it goes to a blue screen with ?boot menu?. If I select boot from disc drive it says it is checking system configuration and then comes up with an error message ?INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing status 32768?

If I take the disc out and restart I can go into safe mode however I am unsure what to do when I?m there. Before entering safe mode it gives me a choice of logging in as myself or administrator. I click on my name to log in but am not sure if I should be clicking on administrator. When safe mode starts up I try to run msconfig and try to launch system restore but it says that it is turned off in safe mode and to use system restore I must start windows in normal mode, which of course I can?t do at this stage.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can activate system restore or on any other way to get my system to boot? Also, I have an external hard drive powered by USB that I want to use in safe mode to back up some data. Is there any way this can be done? I tried plugging it in before and although it was powered o.k my computer failed to detect it as a drive.

Many thanks in advance!

Resart the PC in Safe Mode. Click Start, right click My Computer and select Device Manager and uninstall the Video Driver.

Boot up normally and install your Video Driver.
