blocking facebook, hotmail from being accessed via interenet explorer

By c1got1 ·
I receive your newsletters and have at some point read through one and found a way to prevent my son from logining on to facebook and/or hotmail,,via internet explorer. This was perhaps 1 year ago, I have had a stroke since that time and now I am trying to reverse what I did and I cannot find the article or anything that points me in that direction.
If somone could please provide me with some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Edited the HOSTS file to implement this. It is located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts. Open it with notepad and find the lines corresponding to facebook.
ex. 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com. Just put a # symbol in front of 127.0.0.1. When you save it, make sure that it is saved WITHOUT the .txt extension. This is accomplished by pulling the option down just below the save as "Filename" dialog. You want it to read "All FIles" Instead of "Txt Files". A thorough explanation of the hosts files and how to use it may be found at this link www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm if you feel like reading it.

But we don't know which version of Windows you are using.

Your router may be able to do filtering for you as well.

Also, things like K9 (referenced previously) or OpenDNS can provide such filtering.
