BlueScreenofDeath Win2k SRV

By skper1 ·
Hi again,

One time after I restart my Windows 2000 SRV,
when Win2k SRV loads, it goes immediately to the BlueScreenofDeath and starting dumping Memory 1,2,3 and so on. I can never go back to my normal boot desktop until I reformat my HDD. I tried to fix the problem but I don't know how to do it. Why is it like this & what is causing this BSoD??? Pls. help Skper

Hi,

I'm not sure from your message whether its ok now or not? After you reformatted, I mean...

If its not, then you have a few options.

The first thing to try is to boot to "last known good" configuration. This will overcome any registry ordriver problems that are causing your system to fail. At least ones that crept in since your last successful boot.

Secondly can use an emergency repair disk to correct the problem. But if you haven't made one of those and kept it up to date then...

Thirdly you can boot with the original CD and choose the repair option off that to fix any problems. This resets many of the registry settings, though and you will likely lose some of your installed programs.

Fourthly, you can install again over the top of the old installation.

And finally, you can rebuild from scratch.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Tim.

I have had this problem on multiple machines. They would memory dump upon restart or randomly during operation. One option that solved the problem with some was a RAM swap from another server. The RAM appears fine...even works with other servers andmachines, but seems to crap out on these servers. I have found that SP2 seemed to stabilize the problem somewhat. The other option was the disk drive is about to crap out. One server would bluescreen during operation, usually within 48 hours of arestart. Managed to solve it with restarting, but eventually it quit recognizing the hard drive where the OS resided.

hope it helps

I had this happen a few times. Both problems were solved....but with different soultions.

I think the most likely error is a driver. You may be using a driver that is not signed and is causing your system to be unstable

The second problem could be your hard disk. It might have to be replaced.

What error messahe does Windows give you when it creates the memory dump?
