Boot from SATA DVD

Locked

by bennym1410 ·

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 and I need to set it to boot from the SATA DVD. I do not see a choice for this. I see the HDD,and Floppy in the BIOS (SETUP). When I look at Drives in SetUp,I see SATA 0 and SATA 1. O is the HDD and 1 is the DVD. How do I select SATA 1 in Boot Sequence if it is not listed as a choice?

It’s either listed or it’s not listed but according to you ..

It appears to be BOTH.

”When I look at Drives in SetUp,I see SATA 0 and SATA 1. O is the HDD and 1 is the DVD..”

So – at THIS point you can distinguish between the HDD and the DVD, right ?

”How do I select SATA 1 in Boot Sequence if it is not listed as a choice?”

Now it seems to have disappeared again.

Your BIOS will have a page for BOOT ORDER/PRIORITY – this is where you’ll be seeing SATA0 and SATA1. Depending on which BIOS you have, the control keys will vary, but there should be a legend at the bottom or the side of the page, telling you how to adjust values.

What you have to do is place SATA1 above SATA0 in the order of priority.

is probably what it is called. At least that’s what it would be in the 745 BIOS. Unless it generically identifies it as Onboard CD or Onboard optical, under System > boot sequence.

I'[d follow Jacky’s advice. The Dell manuals are quite good.

Hello

I found this in google after failing to boot xp on my desktop from SATA DVD Writer.
The system i use is AMD Sempron,(2.0 GHZ, 256 RAM) it had both IDE and Sata options but the both HDD and DVD Rom were IDE, As i mentioned it had DVD ROM only and I needed to burn dvds so bought new SATA LG supermulti drive, it was working fine i used to burn even multi layer dvds till today when i found my xp stoped working and says about a missing file, i thought to reinstall it (and thanks God i always keep data on other drives)
Placed bootable XP CD in Sata drive and Selected 1st boot option as CD, but it wont do the job i tried many times to reboot and see but i failed. The XP CD is new and i installed it several other systems,

How should i resolve this problem. (the Old IDE DVD is out of order now so cannt use that one any more)

THANK YOU

Haroon
