Boot Menu and Partitions

By parier ·
I have 2 partitions, oth with Win98 installed. I had C working fine, then installed 98 again on D. I tried to use Boot Magic and wanted to make a boot menu to choose what install to use, but it will not recognize the second install. Is there a wayto make a menu that has 1 for Windows on C drive, 2 for the one on D and a third for boot to DOS. Is this possible, how can I do it? You may need to spell it out for me.

Thank you,
Eric

The scenario of the same system being on two different drives will not offer the boot menu option in that at start up the boot system files are the same,the option to try would be to enter the MSDOS.SYS file and in the [OPTIONS] area
BootMulti=1
Iam not sure what you are trying to do will work since you are accessing the same system files to boot

I wanted to do exactly the same thing. You can modify your autoexec.bat and your config.sys to create yourself a new boot menu. You may have to use a floppy to do so or edit your command.com file as well. If you've ever used a win98 boot disk you'll see that it gives you a menu to boot w/or w-out cd-rom support or to start setup. If you use your edit command and look inside of the config.sys and autoexec.bat on that boot disk, you'll get an Idea of how to set it up.
I just created a new boot disk in win98 to leave in the drive whenever I boot up and edited the autoexec.bat and config.sys to do what ever I wanted it to. Now I have a menu to load 1.win98 or 2.win95 or 3.linux or 4.dos. I prefered to do this instead of altering anything on the hard drive. I hope this helps.

This is to SoulRider, so what should I have done. I have an iamge (Ghost) of my C drive, and D was just a basic install of Win98. (I beleive I can dump the image to D as well) then can I do it, or what would you reccommend?
