There usually is a switch on the motherboard to clear the password from BIOS.

It is going to depend on the brand and model of laptop. Usually you can remove all power and the lithium battery for an hour or so that allows the computer start up options to be saved. On another note, some manufacturers such as IBM also allow the setting of a HD password which cannot be cleared by removing power and battery.

Removing the battery will work, however, that means you must open the laptop. If its udner warranty this will void it. What you need to do, contact the manufacturer of the computer, their tech support line, and ask them for the master password. Theywill be able to provide that for you. If it happens to be a dell, email me at toby@clientlogic.com and give me the type of system and ill email you bakc with the master.

You can try a program called KillCMOS. You can find it at neworder.box.sk Just read the page and you should be able to find it.
You have to set it up on a bootdisk. This will reset all CMOS data to factory defaults. You may have to change a few things to where they should be but other than that, it has proven very useful. Also on that site are other ways to get into the BIOS setup that could prove useful in other cases.

Have Fun!!

It would have been helpful if you had included the model number of the laptop. Assuming it's a ThinkPad, here is what IBM says about resolving a forgotten power on password.

Note: Do not forget your Power On Password! If you forget your power-on password, you cannot reset it. You have to take the computer to an IBM authorized reseller or IBM marketing representative to have the password cancelled. Proof of purchase is required, and an additional charge might be required for the service.Once again, this comes directly from IBM. Visit here for the complete article.
