Boot up hangs on MUP.SYS file

By ewo27 ·
My friend asked me to work on her computer. The other day her computer just wouldn't boot up. She said she didn't do anyhting, it was fine one night and then the next day nothing. I tried to boot into safe mode but it always hung up on the MUP.SYS file. She has XP Home but not the CD. I have XP pro but I cannot get to my recovery console to try and fix things. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

How to resolve windows XP mup.sys hang and using the recovery console

by AbracadabraT In reply to Boot up hangs on MUP.SYS ...

If windows XP won't boot and a safe mode boot hangs at mup.sys, you are not alone. The cause of the issue seems to be largely misunderstood and the cause of much frustration. Here is a very good article (IMHO) that will help you understand and resolve the windows xp mup.sys hang.

http://www.aitechsolutions.net/mupdotsysXPhang.html

This resource also has links to an in-depth article that walks you through manually restoring windows XP from a restore point (even if you can't boot) and also troubleshooting ATX Power supply (PSU) issues.

Hope that helps,
Best to you
