Bring 2nd DC up during business hours?

By billc124 ·
I was wondering if there were any ramifications to bringing a Second Windows 2000 domain controller online during business hours? I already have one Windows 2000 DC running Active directory and one NT4 DC that will be decomissioned over the weekend.I just want to save myself some time and bring the second 2K box up today instead of waiting till the weekend.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

i don't see too many problems. It will add some additional traffic to your existing dc (5-10 min depending on size of domain), but it won't bring the network down.

It won't register itself in DNS as being a domain controller until you reboot.Plus you get to go home at night!

the complete active directory will be replicated across the domain. i would suggest that if you do bring the unit up during business hours make sure that you have the unit hooked uup into the same switch this way it will not send traffic out acrossthe rest of the network.
