Cisco Certs: CCNA --> CCNP --> CCIE

For more details look at the Cisco website:

cco.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/

CCNA requires one exam. CCNP requires CCNA + about 4 more exams. CCIE requires CCNA + some exams plus a hands-on section.

Novell: Well, Netware is slowing disappearing (despite the protest of the faithful). But you can still look into CNA (administrator) or the next step up CNE ("engineer").

Microsoft: Despite what you might read here and in other places, Microsoft does not really have a Networking certification. However, there are some elements of the MCSE program which include references to networking (albeit the "Microsoft way"). Have a look at:

www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices/redirect/mcp.htm

The Network+ certifications are not Microsoft... they are CompTIA. Microsoft, Novell, Cisco.... they do certs on their own products. CompTIA does A+, Network+, Inet+ and Server+.

In regards to certification, look at what you are working with in your "career" and plan on growing from there. Essentially, gain that work experience, learn by doing, then go back and certify your proven knowledge.

The problem with certs only is that without experience, very few employers will hire you.
