Can Outlook Profile use 2 SMTP servers

By Joe Donahue ·
Here's the problem - I have a Win2k Pro user running MS Office 2000 that uses her laptop on site to access her email via her network card - at home she uses the modem - prior to last week there was no problem because at either location the smtp server was the same, now however, we have just changed our dial up users to a different company. Besides having the user change the smtp server address when dialing up and again changing it when connected to the network, is there a better way?

You can set up multiple instances of the Internet Email service within a given email profile. However, since your user access 1 over the network and physically dials into another, going about it this way will cause extraneous problems (error messages saying a given server can't be reached.

The better way to do this would be to set up 2 separate profiles - one for network connection and one for dialup (with the appropriate settings for each). Then set Outlook to prompt the user for which profile to use when Outlook opens.

Why don't you just set up both email accounts in Outlook? You can have Outlook either include both accounts automatically, include only one or neither. If you don't include both accounts automatically the user can use the Send/Receive to manually check either one or both.
