Can Shadow Copy backup info from workstation to server???

By The IT Guy ·
I am currently working to set up many of users on active syncronization of their XP workstation documents folders to my Win 2003 file server. Was wondering if it is possible for Windows Shadow Copy to do this?? I know that Shadow Copy will make restorable copies of folders/files on the file server, but didn't know if it has the capability to do it from workstation to file server.

Not really

From the Previous Versions tab, you can copy old versions of a file to another location, which could be a server, but they would never be the version the user is working on so I can't see the advantage. Volume Shadow Copy can only be applied to shared folders on a volume so I'm not sure you would like to share every users My Documents folder as it would be an administrative nightmare. Why not just redirect the My Documents folder using Group Policy?

Use folder redirect

Just set up Shadow Copying on file server and redirect My Documents to there. Here's a link for folder redirection.
