Can you restrict users to more than 8 st

By russell411 ·
In the User Manager you can restrict users so that they can only log onto 8 particular machines... Is there a way to limit them to say 15 particular machines?

One thing you might try is to use a tracking file on the PCs and reference it from a login script that you use for those users. For instance, make an empty text file in c:\windows and call it security.dat. In the login file, issue an if doesn't exist command that looks for that file and if it doesn't find it, issues a logout command. Then in user manager for those users, point them to that login script. If those users try to login to any PC other than those with the file that you have placed inthe c:\windows directory, they will get logged right back out. It's not pretty, but it will work.

how about putting the user(s) in a group and giving that group log on locally rights to only the specified pcs? It a bit of work, but it might do the job.

A very simple way:

For each user, create a file on the Netlogon share, where the user only has read permissions, called <UserName>.<ComputerName> for each authorized <UserName>.<ComputerName> combination. In the login script:
if exist %LogonServer%\Netlogon\%UserName%.%ComputerName% goto OK
REM Use logout.exe or shutdown.exe here.
:OK
