Can you use NT Admin tools with 2000 Pr

By drew_lgca ·
Is there a way with win 2000 pro to administrate a NT 4 domain. I want to be able to use all the tools that I could if I was on a NT machine. (Users Manager for Domains, Server manager System Policy editor)

Nope.. it's all been moved to a snap-in on the MMC.. you can install the snap ins on your machine.. but those old tools are long gone..

True, the tools have moved to an MMC snap-in, but if you want to find them, use Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management. This will launch MMC with the "old" tools in it. From here I generally create my own Console by adding snap-insuntil I get what I want, then I save my console.

Some of the services like iis, proxy can be managet by mmc.
you can copy usrmgr and other tools from the nt to the 2000 machine.
like you are trying to admin domain from ntws.

I haven't tried it, but I think it will work.

Mark.

Yes, just install the admin tools as you would to any other client and they will work

I dont advise using the win2k admin tools for controlling an NT4 domain anyway as I have had some problems, stick to the normal admin tools and you will be fine

You can still use old NT4 tools to manage NT4 domain from windows 2000 pro. All you have to do is to copy program files (for Users Manager for Domains, Server manager System Policy editor, etc) over to windows 2000 machine.
