cannot open " NEW" folder

By zx_ray ·
Using Win98se ...open any window or folder ..right
click..pop-up menu ( show's at top of ) Active Desktop, Arr.Icon,Line up Icon, Refresh ,undo, properties .... BUT, the NEW is missing !!!

In Win 95 & Win 98 ( note no se ) a small apt. called " setupcor.exe " would fix this ... would not run tonight ..tried from two dload sites.

EZ-out is to just reload Windows , but this has happened befor...

So, What file is missing or damaged ? How to fix &
not have it happen again ?

Do you have your win98 cab files on your hard drive or a cd of win98? if so, try system file checker in system tools> system information> tools...this will check and replace corrupted or missing system files...

another thing update antivirus and scan...virus could possibly cause such activity

Good Luck

Hi

Another way to get this back is to use a free program called X-Setup. This allows you add/remove entries from context menus.

Download it from here:

http://www.x-setup.net/

Good luck

1 Run SFC (System File checker ) to fix for corrupted ,lost system files..

Start-->> Run Type sfc..
and follow the instructions...
you will need the Win98 Cd if required..

2- Download tweakui its a small free utility.
available from microsoft site or any good software site... you may use google to find its exact location..
it has many features... which should have been in the windows system tools.. Like.. fixing..association, building icons, repairing folders...etc..etc...
After you Install it explore around... and you will find many jewell of a features...

hope fully it will help...
