Cannot remove connections form workgroup

By squirrelgirl ·
I am trying to revive a network for a new client in preparation to do a total reconfiguration. The network is a simple file and print sharing connection thru 8-port switch with ICS set up on a host machine (running out to a satellite modem). Today I changed the names of 2 WIn2000 and 1 Win98 PC's in the workgroup and need to figure out how to delete the old names from appearing in the network neighborhood. The newly named connections are active and working.Example: To eliminate confusion the company was having, I renamed "Parts Desk" to "Alan" and "Parts Department" to "Debbie".After rebooting all machines I still see "Parts Department" and "Parts Desk" in the network workgroup list along with "Alan" and "Debbie" and all other valid connections. Right clicking on the connections and deleting is not an option.Any suggestions?

It is being held on the browsers on each system. Since you don't have a domain, you will have to set a master browser (I recommend one of the Windows Servers) and then set each client to not be a backup broswer.

Good links for information are:

The Browser Service

This Toolkit will assist you in locating and locking down the Master Broswers:
