Can't download from Microsoft's Website Only

By craig_willied ·
Fellow Techs, there seem to be an issue with downloading from Microsofts website if you're using Comcast at home. For a few months now me and many others have complained and attempted to resolve this issue. So far no luck. We're all getting a "Page can not be displayed" message when you click on Download on MS site. I've done extensive testing and research. It's not my firewall, I've even put my pc in the DMZ still no luck. Has anyone been able to resolve this? For those who will ask, I'm running XP Home and Pro SP2 both on IE 7, Norton Anti V9. Note: I've also tried using Firefox and still recieved the same error message. Other sites like Cnet download just fine. What say you?

No problems, windows update seems to update just fine.

It does seem to like IE 7, that is all it will use.

Big surprise there, eh..

Windows downloads.

In order for the Windows website downloads to work You need three services running:Automatic updates, background intelligent transfer, and (if memory serves right) either the event log or, most likely, the error reporting service. If you have followed the security advice given in these forums you most likely have one or more of those shut off. Also, sometimes it is not enough to just start them, depending on the computer and the software, you may have to boot with them in autostart mode.

IN internet Exploror 7, look up to the top right, under "tools" and make sure that "work off line" is not ticked, if it is then just click on it to remove it. This should help in some way to fix your problem.

Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.

Thanks for the responces. Not sure what you're saying Mike, maybe you're just commenting. Norm, Error Reporting was disabled. I set it to automatic, started the service, no change. I reboot the pc, still no change. Thanks though. To the other responder, work offline was not checked. So anyone else with any ideas? Anyone from Microsoft out there listening?
