    Can’t download programs

    Locked

    by sunbear01 ·

Since getting a new computer I am no longer able to download programs from TR. I have Windows 7. The run option no longer appears. I have an option to open, open and save but I cannot find a program to open the file. I can however run downloads from other locations on the Internet. What’s up with TR? Have they changed something? .

like what type of file are you downloading? Check the file extension for a tip.
If it’s one of the many “white papers” you may need a PDF or similar viewer.
Also, turn off the CAPS LOCK…

It is time to stop this kind of crap. True, if you switch to Linux, you would not have windows problems. You would have Linux problems.

in win7, you may not have sufficient rights / privileges for executing “runs” or “downloading”.

goto the control panel and check the “user accounts” settings for easing the protective restrictions.

however, you have to log in as “administrator” (and maybe also log into safe mode) to make changes to your system “users”

      Can’t download programs

It happens with all downloads from Tec Rep. That is the only place I have the problem. Team Viewer was the last program I tried to download. I have found a work around. I just Google Team Viewer, go to one of the sites listed and download it. Thanks Everyone for your interest and help. The problem may also be in my email program (Live email). I cannot open the file because I guess I do not have a program to do that. I do not know what file type TR is sending. I’m not very computer literate.

OK, if using Live Mail, you may need to “enable links for this sender”
so that the links in the email that TR sends you will be “live”…
most of the time, until you tell Live to enable links for a sender,
it disables links in emails to sort of curb phishing and trojan program
        threats.

After downloading the file, go to it, right-click on it, choose properties and then untic the box that states this file is blocked because it was downloaded from the Internet. Forgive the paraphrase but I think you will find it easily.

Try this..with Live Mail running, click on Tools, then highlight
Safety Options, then click on the Safe Senders tab at top.
Click on “Add” button, type the address for TechRepublic into
the sender space which is newsletters@techrepublic.online.com,
then click OK. This should enable links in TR newsletters.
