Can't run ifconfig from command prompt

By glord ·
Using XP Pro, when I select the command prompt window to appear and enter ipconfig it does not work. The message appears as follows:
ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.
Other "DOS" programs result the same way.

Could be ipconfig.exe was renamed, program was not downloaded with the OS, or it was placed in a directory that is not part of the DOS path.

You can search the HD for ipconfig.exe, if not found you have an answer. Should be able to add the program, repair the installation, or reload the OS with the features you want.

Check that the path is correctly set up. Type PATH to view contents.
It should contain
PATH=C:\Windows\system32;c:\Windows;C:\Windows\system32\WBEM;
etc

IPconfig.exe is stored in c:\windows\system32, if not copy it from the i386 folder from the XP CD.
