IS Microsoft Networking running on the server
that you can NOT see? If so, make sure all MSN services are started and running properly. *Check the event log for errors if a significant network change has occured you may need to reinstall the service pack

Basic stuff here:
Verify lan connection
Verify protocols
Check event logs
Check bindings
What Protocol? if TCP/IP can you release/renew ip #?

As far as not seeing the server the previous suggestions would be the place to start. With the connection issue you should check the trusts that are in place.

In addition to the above three, I would say you should add in Netbeui protocol. I know, it is not the best protocol for it is not routable, but for simple applications in house it seems to clear up a lot of minor problems. Use netbeui in conjuction with either spx/ipx or tcp/ip and see if that clears up the farm.....

IF you are running Novell you will need to ensure that you have the services in stalled and that you add NetBIOS. This is not routable. Can't be transproted over a router or multiholme system. If you are running TCP/IP open a Command prompt window i.e. run CMD in the run window and try to ping you domain controller. i.e. c:\> ping 100.13.13.102 <----replace with the ip address you are trying to reach. If you can't ping it then you have a conection problem, try to ping your local network card i.e ping 127.0.0.1 if this times out then you have problems on the system. If all else fails you can try to edit the lmhost file for static resolution to ip address problems the link to help you do that is :http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q150/8/00.ASP
