Cant see printer connected to router

I have a small home office network. All computers run a wireless connection through my Netgear DG834 router. My connection to the internet is a dynamic IP and DHCP is enabled (not real savey with this so i hope it all makes sense). Ok, this is my delema, I have a wide format printer that i was running directly from my laptop via ethernet cable (RJ45 cat5e). the printer has a static IP assigned. It works fine from the direct connection to the laptop but i want to connect it directly to the Netgear DG834 router so i can run the RIP/PRINT software from a more powerfull desktop. Cant see the printer on the network. Sorry about the lack of info, can anyone help from what i have detailed (or not detailed) here? If you need more info let me know and i will try to include

ok mojo here is what you do

you go to your log in screen for your router u do this by entering its ip
step2
log into the router
step3
search for your printer based on the ip you used
stepp4
instruct your router to see the printer as dymanic not static
step4
you do this going to the ip itself and replacing it with a more dymanic ip
for instance
192.168.1.100 for example
or 192.168.100.1 for example
the other solution is this
pay attention
reconnect your printer to your notebook
and replace the ip to a more dynamic ip.
as i showed you above 2 examples
or
if your printer has a usb port
connect it
but NOTE NOTE NOTE!!!
delete the other setup you have all together from your add printer menu

than go to add printers and other hardware
and add another printer but this time
ask it to go new connection directly as TCP
in that box
you type something like this
192.168.100.3
or 192.168.1.3
the above are examples of a dynamic ip
you must than reset the ip to your router
to be lets say
either
192.168.100.1
or
or 192.168.1.1

Thanks for your reply but i had no luck:(
I plugged the ethernet cable back in to the laptop so i could maintain production whilst a solution came to hand and now just to rub salt into my wounds the laptop canf find the printer. im ripping my hair out!!!
I dont want/need to share this printer (its a Roland SC540 wide format). It has or had an ip of 192.168.010.020. RJ45 (cat5) plugged directly from the printer to laptop. Running Roland Versaworks rip/print software. hav no idear of whats happening now.

Laptop to internet wireless

It is a wireless network. 2 desktops connect wirelessly 1 hardwired to the netgear router modem, and two laptops wirelessly. so, how does Laptop connect to internet, wirelessly. thanks

Printer detail for ethernet connection

It is a ROLAND printer, model PRO2 SC540EX. It is running from Roland Versaworks rip and print software. it was running using an IP of 192.168.010.020 i just plugged in a new Netgear DG834G modem router and plugged the ethernet cable from the printer into the router and it cant find the printer. If you need further info let me know please, thanks 4ur help.

How to resolve this issue

Thanks again for taking the time to post here at TechRepublic.

The issue here is strictly an IP address issue. When you moved the printer from the ethernet port on the computer to the netgear router, either the printer's TCP/IP address changed due to DHCP (Adressing) on the router OR the printer retained the old address, which the router will not recognize. You need to rerun the network setup for the printer using the NetTool program included with the Roland Install CD.

You can access a PDF copy of the Roland PrintServer Network Settings Guide on the web here:

Follow the instructions in this manual and you should be printing again in no time!

I would strongly recommend that you only access the printer via ethernet cable and not wirelessly. This is due to the intensive network traffic that this printer and software will generate. This means all workstations that use this application and printer should have a wired ethernet connection to the Netgear router.

Roland Printer connection IP problem solved!!

Id like to thank everyone who replied with assistance to my network issue!! Problem is solved. Barret, your post hit the nail on the head. Though iam reluctant to say, i had my computer tech guy out today to resolve the problem, he spent a couple of hours trouble shooting with minimal success then is said to him, "dir, why dont i just call Roland (printer manufacturer)". Within 5 mins the problem was fixed. Thanks again to all. What an invaluable service these forums are!
