Well, knowing the error might help. In the error dialog click
details and try to find out the source and any other info it gives.
Post it and we will give it a shot.

Open outlook express go to tools> accounts>on the right click on properties>check under servers that you have a pop3 in the incoming and outgoing and that they are the same.

If your OS is windows XP or ME, disable system restore (control panel, system), then download and install Spybot Search & Destroy, when the program starts, let it update, then run it and remove all spyware you have. Reboot and repeat testing for spyware. If none are left update you AV program and do a thorough antivirus scan. When finished try sending email with outlook express. If it still doesn't work , download and install IE6SP1 for your OS, run windowsupdate until all have been installed then try sending another mail. If it is OK, you can enable System Restore again.

What has changed recently? Have you moved your computer to another office or changed ISPs... in which case you would need to change the smpt server name (Tools, accounts, Mail, high light your account, properties, servers, Outgoing Mail (SMTP) would need to be changed. If you haven't moved and haven't changed ISPs, is it possible that your network mail server now requires password authentication? (Check with your administrator). Otherwise, if you're a homeuser, you might want to re-type the servername. In general, this type of problem occurs when you attempt to use an outgoing mail server that you don't have an account with. Good luck.
