can't set volume control

By warrenL ·
Running WIN98SE

My volume WAV control keeps dropping to minimum and I can't figure out why. I reset it to mid range and close the window and it immediately drops to minimum again. Once in awhile it will remain set OK, but not for long.

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks,
warren

Do you have a 3rd party app installed like a winamp or tv card with volume?
Sometimes these can take priority over volume and do crazy things.
Check your system tray for applications such as winamp or esonique or anything else that requires you to change a volume setting.
Hope this helps.

Yes I did have winamp on my taskbar, and I removed it. I will see what happens. So far the volume control is holding.

Well, that didn't work.

Any other ideas out there"

Well, I found the trouble. It was the Winamp screen. The volume control on the Winamp screen was set at minumum, and this also set the Windows volumn control on minimum. I reset it to midrange and all is well.

Thanks for getting me looking into Winamp
