Can’t use Perf. Monitor from workstation

    Locked

    by jlooney ·

We have a two domain NT 4.0 structure (DomA and DomB). There is a one way trust between DomA & DomB where DomA can access all of DomB. We are trying to run performance Monitor from DomB on servers in DomA. We are unable to do this at this time. However this scenario has been accomplished before by another person who has since left the company. We have also tried the run as feature of Win2K with no success. How can we make Perf Mon work with our current setup?

Since you mention runas I’m assuming you are attempting to monitor FROM a win2k machine. The main factor here is the not the account you use to run perfmon, but the account the performance monitor service runs under. The service is called “performance logs and alerts” and starts every time you run perfmon. This account is the one that must be able to access the remote machine. This is most often the local system account, which by default will have no rights beyond your machine. Try Changing theservice start up account to one that has access to the target box (you will need to grant the account logon as a service rights). Hope this helps

Tried logging the service Performance Logs and Alerts on as the Administrator of DomA and it still give me the error “Unable to connect to machine.” For more clarification, I am trying to use a Win2000 Workstation in DomB to monitor the servers in DomA.
