See the last bullet.

Which editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection?

All editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection.

?You can use Remote Desktop to initiate a connection from any edition of Windows 7.

?You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.

?You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.

XP doesn't know that Windows 7 exists

by bodonnell11 In reply to Can't used Remote Desktop ...

When XP was written it was written to have remote desktop for computers running XP and below, ie what existed at the time. At the time Windows 7 didn't exist so XP doesn't recognise the Windows 7 OS etc. Windows 7 on the other hand recognises Windows 7 and probably any below which means it knows XP exists therefore you have a one way connection available. The same thing happened with Word - as each version was available it was downwards compatible but wouldn't recognise documents in the higher version. So XP isn't upwards compatible with Windows 7.
